I have used this motor for lifting a theater prop (a few pounds). I did not use any gearbox, it was direct drive. This motor has enough torque as long as you do not spin it extra fast. It works reliably and did not overheat in my setup.

I was concerned because of the size of the drive, compared to the drive it was replacing, was somewhat smaller. However, it soon proved to be quite an upgrade. Its much quieter than the other drives and motion appears to be smoother and more responsive. Now when i start another build I will likely use these as they are more cost effective than the ones I used to use.
as long as you set the stepper motor driver to the exact position you need the stepper motor to move, they will last a lifetime.
